New York, Frederick Young aggredisce donna a colpi di machete nel Bryant Park

Colpi di machete sferrati all’interno del Bryant Park in pieno centro a Manhattan. Una donna di 31 anni è rimasta ferita ed è stata ricoverata in ospedale.

L’aggressore è stato identificato e arrestato dalla polizia. Si tratta di Frederick Young, 43 anni.

La violenza è avvenuta nel parco che è stata la sede della New York Fashion Week dove già in passato si sono verificati episodi di violenza.

Ecco quanto scrive il New York Times nelle sue cronache cittadine. A man wielding a machete struck a 31-year-old woman in the arm in Bryant Park on Tuesday in what the police said appeared to have been a random attack.

The episode happened around 11:30 a.m., when tourists and nearby office workers pour into the Midtown Manhattan park.

Park security guards chased the man before flagging down nearby police officers who heard the woman’s screams and arrested him. The man was walking away from the park, carrying the machete, but he was not threatening others, the police said.

“He was very calm,” Detective Jason Norman, one of the officers who made the arrest, said. “He didn’t say anything. He was compliant. When he was ordered to drop his weapon, he did.” The man, identified by the police as Frederick Young, 43, was charged with assault.

The woman was taken to Bellevue Hospital Center in stable condition, the police said. “A substantial gash on her right arm,” Robert K. Boyce, the chief of detectives, said.

Mr. Young has 23 previous arrests, Chief Boyce said.
